‘Domestic noir at its best … This beautiful novel is worth re-reading and re-reading. It's that good.‘ Peter Donoughue

A powerful book about desire and loss, about the private burdens we carry. I loved its pace, its assuredness.' — David Astle, ABC Radio

Judas Boys is vivid and valuable. Brutal, too. Cheever with a boning knife.' — Michael Winkler

‘I’ve just finished Joel Deane’s new novel Judas Boys. My goodness, it’s good and disturbing too. Deane scratches at the underbelly of betrayal and desire in this finely realised novel. Made me think of Tobias Wolff.' — Mark Rubbo, Readings

'When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon.'

What happens when the future falls as dark as your past? When all that you have seduced and betrayed, rises up to drown you?

In the aftermath of professional catastrophe and public disgrace, a man’s life unravels. All that remains is the strangeness of the present and the ghosts of the past.

Judas Boys is a suburban de profundis — love and betrayal and forgiveness resonate with the human voice fractured in extremis.
